myLot Topic Discussions| Dream #2! Pet "Bird". | | I had a pet bird. He was a cute and fluffy cockatiel and I loved him so much. For some reason, my dad and brother and I decided to let the bird out to see if the neighbor's cat would eat it. I'd never actually do that, but these things don't always make sense. Haha.
So, believe it or not, my bird was eaten. He died.
So we sat there with an empty cage until my dad bought a new bird. But I think my dad was being cheap because the bird was all nasty. It was all sickly looking like baby birds before all their feathers grow in and they're eyes are still too big for their heads.
But I still took good care of him. I tried to pet him, hold him, train him, etc. and one day I had to take him out of the cage to clean it and change the paper and stuff and then my little bird was somehow a spider and I hadn't noticed it changing. I just felt the creepy crawly legs and looked over at the "bird" on my hand.
I saw that it obviously wasn't my bird anymore, but for some reason I was still like, "Ok, little birdy, back in your cage."
I wondered if maybe that had happened because there really was a spider on me.
And then I woke up... | |

| | Mistaken Identity with the Pet Bird | | We have a beautiful Lutino cockatiel who lives on a shelf instead of in a cage. My husband clips her wings so she can't fly terribly far, but sometimes she'll jump off of the shelf and start walking around the house and she looks like a little bitty chicken to me.So the other day my little boy was standing near the bird's shelf and holding this plastic chicken toy he got in a kids' meal at Wendy's, and in the first brief moment I looked at him standing there, I thought he was holding the bird by the neck. It scared me to death until I realized what was really going on! I've chuckled over this several times since it happened.Anyone else have funny stories like this?? | |

| | Can My Pet Bird Get Infected With the Avian Flu? | | Can My Pet Bird Get Infected With the Avian Flu?
Your pet bird could contract the avian flu if it is exposed to another bird that's carrying the virus. So it's important to keep your bird and its food and water inside, away from any place where it could be exposed to infected migrating or domestic birds. That way your pet won't be at risk for getting the bird flu.In addition, there are many precautions you can take to guard against the bird flu virus and other illnesses.Don't allow your bird to drink or eat from ponds or other places that migrating birds may have flown over.
Keep your pet bird's cage clean.
Wash your hands after handling your pet bird, cleaning its cage, or after having any contact with your bird's secretions.
If you have any questions about your bird's health, talk with your veterinarian.
Government officials from the United States and other countries have stopped importing live birds and bird products (like meat and eggs) from countries where there have been outbreaks of the bird flu. So if you buy a pet bird, it should not have been exposed to the virus.
| | Kitten vs pet bird problem | | I have a 5 month old kitten (Muffin)who is very curious and trying to play/attack a cockatiel in his cage.
I keep Muffin in my bedroom while I am at work so that Buster doesn't end up as a snack, but I would like to have her roam freely. Even when I'm home I have to be alert because she ends up over by the bird cage trying to climb up it.
I know its just in a cat nature to want to attack anything that is noisy and moving, but is there anything that I can do to keep her away from the birdcage at least when I am at home. (I think trusting her to stay away while I'm away would be pushing my luck)
Thanks for any suggestions!By the the picture of the black & white cat is Robin Hood and he's too old to climb anything or pay much attention to Buster.
| | | | Pet birds | | Anyone else have pet birds? I have two pet birds and they are wonderful. What type of birds do you have, how many? If you do not have any pet birds, would you ever consider adopting one? | |
